All Flags across ARIZONA (AZ: Feb. 26): Arizona's Governor ordered all (US & State) Flags at government / public facilities across the state, to half-staff, from sunrise to sunset, on Mon., Feb. 26, the date of his interment, for the funeral and burial of U.S. Marine Sergeant Alec Langen, who was one of the casualties of the February 6 helicopter crash during a training flight in California. All Flags across MASSACHUSETTS (US-MA: Feb. 23 - Mar. 1) Massachusetts' Governor ordered all (US & State) Flags at government / public facilities across the state, to half-staff, from sunrise on Fri., Feb. 23 to sunset on Thu., Mar. 1, the date of his interment, in honor of U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Carlos Dickey, a Tanker, with the 3rd Battalion, 67th Armored Regiment, formerly of Lowell, Massachusetts, who passed away on February 13, 2024. State Flag of Rhode Island across RHODE ISLAND (RI: Feb. 21 - 27): Rhode Island's Governor ordered the STATE Flag of Rhode Island atop all state / public facilities across the state, to half-staff until Tue., Feb. 27, the date of his interment, in memory of State Senator Frank Lombardo (D-25). All Flags across MINNESOTA (US-MN: Feb. 19 - TBD): Minnesota's Governor ordered all flags across the state to half-staff, on Mon., Feb. 19, until sunset on the date of the last interment (TBD), to honor the lives of two police officers and a firefighter/paramedic who lost their lives in the line of duty. Burnsville Police Officers Paul Elmstrand (left pic) and Matthew Ruge (right pic), and Burnsville Firefighter/Paramedic Adam Finseth (center pic) were among the team who responded to reports of a domestic situation reported in the early morning of February 18. All Flags atop the State Capitol and across Sheridan County, WYOMING (WY: Feb. 14 - Mar. 1): Wyoming's Governor ordered State of Wyoming flags atop the State Capitol and government / public facilities across Sheridan County to half-staff, immediately on Wed., Feb. 14 until sunset on Fri., Mar. 1, the date of his celebration of life and interment, in honor and memory of Sheridan Police Department Sergeant Nevada Krinkee, who was shot and killed in the line of duty on February 13. Half-Staff Flag Etiquette (Procedures):
Flag-raising at sunrise = hoist the Flags to full staff, then lower slowly, respectfully to half-staff
Flag-lowering at sunset = hoist Flags up from half-staff back to full-staff, then lower slowly, respectfully all the way down for removal

Title 36, Chapter 10 PATRIOTIC CUSTOMS
National anthem; Star-Spangled Banner, conduct during playing:
During rendition of the national anthem when the flag is displayed, all present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. Men not in uniform should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart. Persons in uniform should render the military salute at the first note of the anthem and retain this position until the last note. When the flag is not displayed, those present should face toward the music and act in the same manner they would if the flag were displayed there.
Note: A new law was passed on October 30, 2008 that authorizes veterans and active-duty military not in uniform can now render the military-style hand salute during the playing of the national anthem. This publication is currently being updated to reflect the new law.
Pledge of Allegiance to the flag; manner of delivery:
The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, "I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.", should be rendered by standing at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. When not in uniform men should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart. Persons in uniform should remain silent, face the flag, and render the military salute.
