All Flags across NEW JERSEY (US-NJ: Feb. 2): New Jersey's Governor ordered all flags at state / public facilities across NJ to half-staff, from sunrise to sunset, on Fri., Feb. 2, in honor of Plainfield Firefighter Marques Hudson. Hudson served the City of Plainfield as a firefighter for over two years before losing his life in the line of duty on January 26, 2024. CLICK HERE to read the Gov.'s Flag order.

State of Wyoming Flag atop the State Capitol and across Campbell and Cheyenne County, WYOMING (WY: Feb. 2): Wyoming's Governor ordered State of Wyoming flags atop the State Capitol and across Campbell and Cheyenne County to half-staff, from sunrise to sunset, on Fri., Feb. 2, in honor and memory of John Hines. Mr. Hines served in the Wyoming House of Representatives from 1985-2002 and the Wyoming Senate, representing District 23 from 2003-2014. In the Senate, Hines served as Majority Floor Leader and President. He passed away January 26, 2024. CLICK HERE to see the Flag order.

STATE of MD Flags across MARYLAND (MD: Jan 27 - TBD): Maryland's Governor ordered the STATE of Maryland flag at all government / public facilities across the state to half-staff, immediately until TBD, for U.S. Navy Special Warfare Operator First Class (Navy SEAL) Christopher J. All (U.S. & TX) Flags across Denton County and "surrounding counties", TEXAS (US-TX: Jan. 24 - TBD): Texas' Governor approved the County's request for all Flags across Denton County [and in any adjacent or surrounding counties through the date of burial or final interment. Individuals, businesses, municipalities, and other political subdivisions and entities are encouraged to fly their flags at half-staff for the same length of time] to half-staff until sunset on the date of his funeral and interment / burial (TBD), in honor of the life and public service of United States Navy Special Operator Second Class Gage Ingram, a Navy SEAL assigned to SEAL Team 3, from Trophy Club, Texas, died in the line of duty while supporting Naval Special Warfare Group 1 in the Arabian Sea off the coast of Somalia. Half-Staff Flag Etiquette (Procedures):
Flag-raising at sunrise = hoist the Flags to full staff, then lower slowly, respectfully to half-staff
Flag-lowering at sunset = hoist Flags up from half-staff back to full-staff, then lower slowly, respectfully all the way down for removal

Title 36, Chapter 10 PATRIOTIC CUSTOMS
National anthem; Star-Spangled Banner, conduct during playing:
During rendition of the national anthem when the flag is displayed, all present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. Men not in uniform should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart. Persons in uniform should render the military salute at the first note of the anthem and retain this position until the last note. When the flag is not displayed, those present should face toward the music and act in the same manner they would if the flag were displayed there.
Note: A new law was passed on October 30, 2008 that authorizes veterans and active-duty military not in uniform can now render the military-style hand salute during the playing of the national anthem. This publication is currently being updated to reflect the new law.
Pledge of Allegiance to the flag; manner of delivery:
The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, "I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.", should be rendered by standing at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. When not in uniform men should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart. Persons in uniform should remain silent, face the flag, and render the military salute.
