Today's Pre-Pledge Tribute recalls ...
[ Althea Gibson holding the trophy for her 1957 Wimbledon victory = public domain images ]
On this date, July 6th of 1957, American tennis player, Althea Gibson, becomes the first black player to win the Wimbledon tournament. Most believe American tennis star, Arthur Ashe, was the first black athlete to win at Wimbledon. So, we're doing what we can do to raise awareness for Althea Gibson's impressive feat.
Interestingly, Bob Ryland, a coach for Venus and Serena Williams, stated this about Althea Gibson: "She is one of the greatest players who ever lived. Martin (Navratilova) couldn't touch her. I think she'd beat the Williams sisters."

Citizens, particularly our students, across the USA, please, join each other in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
Thanks for being part of today's Pre-Pledge of Allegiance Tribute.
Now, go out and be a more informed, inspired, respectful citizen.
