Explanation of Accuracy Score: For example, FlagsExpress' score of 26.5 of 60 (44% accuracy) means that their listing of half-staffs were 100% correct on 26.5 of 60 days. There were many days when their site may have listed most, but not all, like 2 of the 3 states, that were at half-staff. But, that did not count as an 'accurate' day because their listing of half-staff states was not 100% correct.

*Mar. 30, the following half-staff alert sites / apps are missing alerts: *Flag Steward (*Yes, we missed this 1-day, announced at 12pm local time, H-S until the late afternoon), Flags Express, Colonial Flag app, and Legacy were all missing the OKLAHOMA statewide half-staff for former US Senator Coburn. Only Flag Notify, captured and posted the half-staff in a timely manner.

Mar. 28 & 29, 2020, the following half-staff alert sites / apps are missing alerts: Flags Express, Legacy, and Colonial's "Flag App" are missing the Nevada Governor's Flag order for a fallen officer (see screenshots below). Only Flag Notify had it correctly posted like Flag Steward.

Why does Flag Steward proclaim to have the most accurate and comprehensive half-staff alerts?
It's not because we're trying to pat ourselves on the back ;) It's just a sign of the care and attention to detail we give to commemorating those who their nation, state, and/or local area want to properly honor. The Flag Steward site and service has up and running for 1 year now. During that time, we've noticed how often other half-staff alert sites are incorrect, so that's why we set out to be better stewards of Our Flag in all states. And, it's not an easy thing to do - to get the half-staff status for all states accurately and on-time. Unfortunately, every state alerts its citizens in different ways (like bulk emails, RSS feeds, Tweets, etc.) and many are not easy to follow or posted on-time. In the last 6 months, we have improved our half-staff alert quality as well as the presentation of such alerts - to the point where we proclaim to be the most accurate and comprehensive. But, that doesn't' mean we're 100% accurate either - just more than others providing the same service. We have one last layer of communication that we'll add in the next few months to maintain and extend our highest accuracy And, we know national, state, and local area Flag orders don't have to be followed by citizens. But, if you have a US Flag, it's just the right thing to do - join and show unity in commemorating those being honored by your national, state and local governments.

Evidence supporting Flag Steward's 30-day and 60-day studies of its half-staff accuracy versus other sites & apps starts below.

Posted here is another recent example of Flag Steward's greater attention to detail compared to others. Many of the Governor Flag orders do not have an ending date, the date of interment (burial) when they are first posted. And, most Governors do not send out another order to return Flags to full-staff at sunset on the date of interment. So, Flag Steward researches, verifies, and publishes the ending date (date of interment) on its own.

Most of FlagsExpress' half-staff accuracy errors relate to not effectively informing states when their half-staff remembrance has ended. For example, today's (June 27) FlagsExpress half-staff listing has 3 half-staffs that ended (see pic below):

CO half-staff for Fallen Trooper Moden ended on 6/21 (6 days ago)

[ Note on own accuracy deductions: On May 1, Flag Steward was first of 5 sites to post alert, but still 3 hours later than email receipt alerting to NC State Flag half-staff notice. And, 2 hours late verifying that US Flag half-staff in MD was ended early by Governor at sunset on April 30. So, docked self 0.5 for tardy alerts. On May 2, FS was a few hours late posting Nevada's flag order for today. On May 4, found NV half-staff alert via web in the evening, instead of email alert, and seems no other sites have acknowledged it as of morn of May 5. On May 14 & 15, late to post IL & MI half-staff alerts. On May 30, missed immediate half-staff for MS, but got it next AM, when others had not. On June 17, missed immediate half-staff order in late afternoon from WV. === total of missed / delayed half-staff orders: 4.5 days during 60 day study (all were 1/2 days missed) ]
