Today's Pre-Pledge Tribute recalls ...
[ public domain image / drawing of US Marines chasing and engaging with German enemy soldiers ]
On this date, June 1st of 1918, the Battle of Belleau Wood began. This key World War I battle, which lasted from June 1 to June 26, was between the Germans and Allied Forces - made up of US Army, US Marine Corps, French, and British units. The Germans were making a strong 'Spring Offensive' on the Western Front of Europe to try and capture all of France before the American forces were fully in place. Fortunately, when the Germans busted through the French defensive line near the Marne River on June 1st, the US Marines reacted quickly and aggressively - pushing the Germans back and then holding the line.

And, now it's time to say the Pledge of Allegiance.
Students across the USA, inspired by the Marines who fought to defeat the Germans during World War I, please, join each other in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
Thanks for being part of today's Pre-Pledge of Allegiance Tribute.
