Before reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, we must observe where the U.S. Flag is at half-staff today, Saturday, Mar. 19th.
Per the US Flag Code (detailed below) and in advance of the anticipated Presidential proclamation, the U.S. Flag should be half-staff across the United States of America to honor the death of U.S. Representative Don Young of Alaska, a 49-year Congressman and the oldest member of the U.S. Congress.

NOTE: Strangely, on Sat., Mar. 19, the President posted a statement on the passing of Congressman Don Young which did not include, per the US Flag Code, the required half-staff proclamation. Why do we have a US Flag Code to specify half-staff protocol if we're not going to follow it? I, vehemently independent of political parties, am disappointed. -Sean S., Founder & Chief Flag Steward

HALF-STAFF IMMEDIATELY UNTIL MIDNIGHT TONIGHT, SAT., MAR. 19.
(the same, late-in-the-day, proclamation happened last month upon US Rep. Hagedorn's death)
