The first Thursday is May is designated as a National Day of Prayer by the U.S. Congress.  It was formally enacted in 1952 and further adjusted in 1998 to state: The President shall issue each year a proclamation designating the first Thursday in May as a National Day of Prayer on which the people of the United States may turn to God in prayer and meditation at churches, in groups, and as individuals.  (Pub. L. 105–225, Aug. 12, 1998, 112 Stat. 1258.)
America's connection with God was part of its formation as an independent nation.  The Second Continental Congress, from 1775 to 1783, created days of fasting (making a sacrifice by not eating) and prayer during the United States of America's earliest days.
Please, join all Americans in prayer tomorrow - full of praise, petition, intercession, and thanksgiving.
