... is about the founding of Teacher Appreciation Day ...
National Education Association (NEA) helped establish National Teacher Appreciation Day as we know it today. They call it, "a day for honoring teachers and recognizing the lasting contributions they make to our lives." In 1985, NEA made it part of the National PTA's Teacher Appreciaton Week. But, the real origins are not clear, but are best traced back to Ryan Krug, a teacher in Wisconsin, who wrote to national political and education leaders about the need for a national day of recognition for teachers. Then, in 1953, Mattie Woodridge, a teacher from Arkansas, with the help of former First Lady, Eleanor Roosevelt, got the 81st Congress to proclaim a National Teacher Day.

... instead of doing your remote/online learning work today, spend the day by showing your current and past teachers some LOVE! Tell them how thankful you are for how they taught and molded you. Here are a few suggestions:
-Make a 10-15 sec 'thank you' video and email it to your teachers
-Make a homemade 'Thank You' card, perhaps with pictures of you and your teacher, and email it them
-Handwrite a note of appreciation to your teacher(s) and snail mail (postal mail) it to their school ... it will be a great surprise this summer/fall
-Write a poem or song and make an audio recording (on Soundcloud) and email it to them
