Stories from Our Flag

Welcome to Flag Steward's
Stories from Our Flag

for Thursday, April 23, 2020
Picture
Where is Our Flag, the U.S. Flag, lowered to half-staff today (April 23)?
There are NO new half-staffs ordered by the President or Governors.

Other Half-Staffs continue ...
... Across Arizona, Illinois, Michigan, New York, Connecticut, and New Jersey all Flags are half-staff ...
... In Pennsylvania, all STATE Flags are half-staff ...
... And, in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, and in the cities of San Marcos, Texas, Columbia, South Carolina, Washington, D.C. and San Diego, California all Flags are half-staff ...
Eleven (11) of of the 13 half-staffs, all except Arizona, and Texas, honor coronavirus victims.

Today's Story from Our Flag
... is about one of the traits you must have to be a 'Good Citizen' and a good online learner ;) ...
Picture
[ Picture via YouTube screen capture:  These students (Ms. Wheeler's 2015-16 6th Grade) showed amazing INITIATIVE in 2016.  They adopted and helped create the Flag Steward (then called 'Beacon of Honor') half-staff alert system for schools in their district - courageously inviting the Superintendent and pitching her their program for distribution to neighboring schools ]
Initiative is taking charge of yourself and/or others to do something good.  It often takes courage and faith in oneself to initiate (to start) a task - like doing school work online.  Students you have to take initiative to work on your math, reading, writing, and other school subjects without your teacher or parent nagging you ;)  And, initiative doesn't meaning doing it alone.  If you're struggling with a school subject, then reach out to a fellow student or brother/sister to get some help when you need it.  That's initiative - doing whatever it takes to move a task forward.
America was built on the initiative of our Founding Fathers and it continues to be a driving force behind our pioneering leadership today in technology, communication, renewable energy, space travel, healthcare, and charity.

As Cesar Chavez, a civil rights activist for farm workers in the 1960s, said in quote at the top of this page:

"Students must have initiative; they should not be mere imitators. They must learn to think and act for themselves - and be free."
[ And, don't expect to get a pat on the back, to be congratulated by your parents, teachers, or others just because you take some INITIATIVE.  Being a 'self-starter' is a trait reinforced by your own self-discipline and pride, not boasting to or from others ;) ]
Recite the Pledge of Allegiance
Online / Remote Learning Students across America, empowered with inspiring stories of hope and courage from Our Flag, you can now recite the Pledge more meaningfully ;)

FINALLY! - TEXT (National & State) Half-Staff Alerts:

CLICK HERE to sign-up for National and State-targeted Half-Staff Flag Alert TEXT Notifications
(Many prefer this text alert service because within the Flag Steward app, we can only deliver state-targeted half-staff notifications if you are located in the state and always share your location with the app - which, rightfully, is not something most users want to do)

This is a FREE service powered by Flag Steward's nonprofit
... America's most honorable, accurate, & complete (National, State, & Local) half-staff alert service ...

Thanks for reviewing today's 'Reminders for Our Flag'
- a service from the Flag Steward program

Now go 'Be a stud citizen' today by ...
... picking up and disposing of 2 pieces of trash that will help
keep America beautiful !!!
