Stories from Our Flag about American Pioneers

Welcome to Flag Steward's
Stories from Our Flag

for Thursday, April 16, 2020
... a Pioneer for American Civil Rights - Martin Luther King Jr., featured in Today's Story from Our Flag ...
Check it out, kids & citizens!
Watch today's Pledge Tribute broadcast (test#4, 3 minutes)
- shows flag-raising, half-staff alerts, and 'Story from Our Flag' before Recite Pledge
Where is Our Flag lowered to half-staff today (Apr. 16)?
I believe this is the most half-staffs, 14 in all, I've seen in the 4 years of tracking and publishing half-staff alerts.
The newest half-staffs (3) were ordered in Virginia (all STATE Flags), in Marion County, Indiana (All Flags), and Columbia (All Flags)

Other Half-Staffs continue ...
... Across Michigan, New York, Connecticut, and New Jersey all Flags are half-staff ...
... In Pennsylvania, all STATE Flags are half-staff ...
... Kentucky has the Flags flying on its State Capitol at half-staff ...
... And, in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, and in the cities of Hendersonville, Tennessee, Washington, D.C. and San Diego, California all Flags are half-staff ...
All of these half-staffs, except in Marion County, IN and Hendersonville, TN honor coronavirus victims.  The half-staffs in Indiana and Tennessee pay tribute to fallen officers.

On this date, April 16, in 1963, Martin Luther King Jr. penned his famous 'Letter from Birmingham Jail.'  MLK was arrested for leading and organizing marches and sit-ins (nonviolent protests) against racism and segregation in Birmingham, Alabama.  His letter told Americans that direct action, like nonviolent protests, needed to be taken against unjust laws because waiting for justice through the U.S. court system could take forever.  This letter and many other speeches by MLK Jr. became a rallying call for the Civil Rights Movement.

(Many prefer this text alert service because within the Flag Steward app, we can only deliver state-targeted half-staff notifications if you are located in the state and always share your location with the app - which, rightfully, is not something most users want to do)

This is a FREE service powered by Flag Steward's nonprofit
... America's most honorable, accurate, & complete (National, State, & Local) half-staff alert service ...
