Stories from Our Flag

Welcome to Flag Steward's
Stories from Our Flag

for Wednesday, April 15, 2020
... a 'Wednesday Wishes' day on this "No Taxes Due today - Tax Day" ...
Check it out, kids & citizens!
Watch today's broadcast of the Pledge of Allegiance Tribute ceremony (test#3)
- highlights half-staff alerts and 'Stories from Our Flag' before Recite Pledge

VIDEO forthcoming ... To be posted by 1159pm MST tonight (Tue., 4/14) ...

Actually - NOT!  The broadcast video was way too long and butchered by me ;)  I'll try again on Thu.!
Where is Our Flag, the U.S. Flag, lowered to half-staff today (April 15)?
I believe this is the most half-staffs I've seen in the 4 years of tracking and publishing half-staff alerts.
... Across Michigan, New York, Connecticut, and New Jersey all Flags are half-staff ...
... In Pennsylvania, all STATE Flags are half-staff ...
... Kentucky has the Flags flying on its State Capitol at half-staff ...
... And, in Marion County, Indiana, and Cuyahoga County, Ohio, and in the cities of Columbia, South Carolina, Hendersonville, Tennessee, Washington, D.C. and San Diego, California all Flags are half-staff ...
All of these half-staffs, except in Marion County, IN and Hendersonville, TN honor coronavirus victims.  The half-staffs in Indiana and Tennessee pay tribute to fallen officers.

Today's Story from Our Flag
... starts with our 'Wednesday Wishes' - highlighting a couple of this week's noteworthy birthdays ...
We wish happy birthday to a couple of former baseball stars, who were born on the same day in 1966, and 25 years ago played together and led the Atlanta Braves to their only championship in the 1995 World Series.

David Justice, a 14-year MLB outfielder and designated hitter, 3-time All Star, NL Rookie of the Year in 1990, and one of the team leaders during the Braves' 1995 championship season.  He was undoubtedly pranked more than once by his teammate and birthday brother ...

... also born on April 14, 1966, was Hall of Fame pitcher Greg Maddux.  Nicknamed "Mad Dog," he was the ultimate prankster - energized with a 12-year old' sense of humor he kept teammates laughing and terrified by lighting teammates shoes on fire in the dugout and doing many other "not fit for print" antics.  But, on the mound, he was masterful - setting many MLB records, including 4 straight Cy Young Awards, 17 straight seasons of at least 15 pitching victories, and 18 Gold Glove awards.
Today's Story from Our Flag (Part 2)

Is suppose to be about the death of Abe Lincoln and swearing in of Andrew Johnson as the 17th President.

But rather than relive a "downer" historic moment today, let's be entertained and have some fun by sending out 'Wednesday Wishes' for the return of baseball, especially baseball and softball for America's kids - who make so many summertime memories on the diamond and going to college and pro games.

So, I'm going to send out my baseball wish by singing, and more than likely hurting your ears, baseball's 7th inning stretch classic:

"Take me out to the ball game,
Take me out with the crowd.
Buy me some peanuts and cracker jack,
I don't care if I never get back,
Let me root, root, root for the home team,
If they don't win it's a shame.
For it's one, two, three strikes, you're out,
At the old ball game."
Recite the Pledge of Allegiance
Alright students and citizens, especially our Online / Remote Learning Students across America, let's recite the Pledge together - motivated to add more stories of baseball and softball fun woven within Our Flag this summer, you can now recite the Pledge more meaningfully ;)
