Today's Story from Our Flag
Happy Birthday, Thomas Jefferson!

On April 13, 1743, Thomas Jefferson was born in the Virginia Colony.  As one of our Founding Fathers, his life was full of many important accomplishments - like being our third U.S. President.  But, surprisingly, the top 3 deeds of his life, the ones that Jefferson had written on his tombstone, did not include his work as a U.S. Government leader.
On his gravestone is written:

"HERE WAS BURIED THOMAS JEFFERSON, AUTHOR OF THE DECLARATION OF AMERICAN INDEPENDENCE, OF THE STATUTE OF VIRGINIA FOR RELIGIOUS FREEDOM, AND FATHER OF THE UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA."
