Welcome to Flag Steward's
Stories from Our Flag

for Thursday, April 2, 2020
Where is Our Flag, the U.S. Flag, lowered to half-staff today?
In North Carolina, all (U.S. & State) Flags across the state are half-staff honoring a fallen NC State Trooper.
Massachusetts has all Flags across its commonwealth (state) half-staff to honor military veterans, 11 at last count, who died from COVID-19 complications at Soldiers' Home - Holyoke.
And, in the cities of Santa Rosa California, Atlanta, Georgia, and Vidalia, Georgia, all Flags are half-staff for local fallen patriots.

Today's Story from Our Flag
... "Show me the money!" ...
Picture
On April 2, in 1792, the U.S. Congress passed, and George Washington signed, a law creating the U.S. dollar as the country's standard unit of money (currency).  The law, called the Coinage Act of 1792, established a mint to make the money and a government office to control the use of coins of the United States.
Was the newly created U.S. "dollar" made of paper or metal?
The "dollar" was a silver coin equal to the spanish "peso" that most citizens used to pay for things at that time.
