Today's Moment to Remember
... the origin of Presidents Day ...
... the origin of Presidents Day ...
Thanks to our modern day media and advertisers, Presidents Day is a national holiday that seems only associated with the birthdays of Presidents Washington and Lincoln. But, in reality ...
... Presidents Day started as a holiday named "Washington's Birthday." And, according to United States Congressional records, it still has NOT officially been changed to Presidents Day. The majority of states passed their own laws to rename and promote the holiday as Presidents Day on their own. But, not surprisingly, it wasn't until the 1980s, when national advertisers started promoting Presidents Day specials, that it stuck in the minds of Americans.
