Today's Moment to Remember

... from Sunday's (yesterday's) church service ...
During our church's celebration mass for Veterans yesterday, with many old timers who squeezed into their old uniforms ;), Fr. Krol directed his sermon towards our youth - telling them about spending his childhood in then communist-ruled Poland in the 1970s and 80s. He stated, "you all don't know how lucky you are to live in freedom." He then asked all kids between 15-18 years old to stand-up. "You are the same age as the youth that led the Warsaw Uprising in 1944 - fighting against German Nazi occupation only to be overtaken by Soviet communsit rule. They stepped up to defend their nation, and you should be prepared to do the same when your country calls." He then, asked all Veterans at the mass to stand - reinforcing with the youth that these are the men and women who were willing to lay down their lives for others, the ultimate sacrifice highlighted in the Bible. He finished his sermon with a strong statement about patriotism. "All of you should always honor and respect your country's Flag, National Anthem, and soldiers (service members) because are the 3 most important reasons and representations of the freedoms you enjoy. Never take that for granted."
