Today's Moment to Remember
On this date, October 11th, in 1890, the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was founded. It was started by 4 women, Mary Smith Lockwood, Eugenia Washington, a great-grandniece of George Washington, Ellen Hardin Walworth, and Mary Desha, who wanted to help celebrate America's history, educate citizens, and instill patriotism. During this timeframe, 100 years after Washington was first elected President, there was a renewed interest in America's patriotic past. So, when historical societies, like Sons of the American Revolution, rejected women as members, these 4 pioneering women started their own organization. Currently, DAR (Daughters of the America Revolution), a nonprofit promoting historic preservation, education, and patriotism, has more than 185,000 members and more than 950,000 since its beginning. DAR's motto is "God, Home, Country"
Today's #NeverForgottenFriday Commemoration
Thankfully, again, there were no soldiers killed while serving in a Global War on Terror (GWOT) combat zone last week.
