Reminders from Our Flag
for Monday, January 22, 2018
[Note:  Play this patriotic music in the background to enhance the experience]

Across the USA, Our Flag flies at full staff - except in Colorado and South Carolina.

In Colorado, the half-staff honors Sergeant First Class Mihail Golin of B Company, 2nd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs. Golin, 34, died in the line of duty on Jan. 1, 2018, of injuries sustained from small arms fire while on dismounted patrol in Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan.  South Carolina's half-staff commemorates Detective Michael R. Doty of the York County Sheriff's Office, who died in the line of duty.

The Beacon of Honor - Awakens Our Flag to Inform and Inspire Patriotic Citizens
with today's 'Military Monday' memories

On this 'Military Monday', we honor the World War II allied forces in the Pacific led by General MacArthur.  After a year of battling the Japanese in New Guinea, on this date, January 22nd in 1943, the U.S. and Australian armies were finally victorious against the Japanese.  This first land battle win marked the beginning of the Allied forces recapturing islands across the Pacific and freeing its citizens from Japanese rule.

[Learning moment: Where in the world is New Guinea?  Find out here.]

And, today's #MondayMotivation quote serves up ...

Yes, that's right.  Chuck Norris is a U.S. military Veteran - having served in U.S. Air Force in the 1950s.

Thankfully, there are no new fallen combatants to report from the Global War on Terrorism.  We honored SFC Golin earlier in January (see here).
On this 'Military Monday' we take a moment to thank and pray for the safe return of our military service members deployed overseas.

Thanks for reviewing today's 'Reminders for Our Flag'
- a service from the Beacon of Honor - Awakens Our Flag program
Now go 'Be a good citizen' today by ...
... picking up and disposing of 2 pieces of trash that will help
keep America beautiful !!!
