... backing the U.S. Constitution ...
... backing the U.S. Constitution ...
On this date, October 27 of 1787, the first of 85 Federalist Papers was published in a New York City newspaper. The essays, by Alexander Hamilton, James Madison and John Jay, were written to inform the states why they should approve the U.S. Constitution. As stated and performed in 'rap,' in Hamilton - the Musical, John Jay wrote 5 papers, James Madison penned 29 essays, and Alexander Hamilton, amazingly, wrote the other 51 papers. The essays were a success. The U.S. Constitution was ratified by enough states (11 of the 13) on June 21, 1788 and became the supreme law of our country on March 4, 1789.
