Today's Story from Our Flag
... another beginning of the end ...
... another beginning of the end ...
[ Breaking the Hindenburg line by William Longstaff (public domain painting) ]
Yesterday's 'beginning of the end' marked America's victory in the Revolutionary War. And. today's 'beginning of the end' set America and the Allied Forces on the path to victory during World War I. On this date, September, 29th, in 1918. Allied Forces (American, British, and French) finally broke through the German's heavily fortified defenses known as the Hindenburg Line. The battles to break through the Western Front and push back the Germans were some of the bloodiest of all time. Thankfully, with this breakthrough, the Allies were able to fully defeat the Germans two months later on November, 11, 1918.
