This date, September 28, in 1781 marked the beginning of the end of the American Revolutionary War. The Battle of Yorktown, which lasted from September 28 to October 19 in 1781, occurred in Virginia between American forces, led by General George Washington and a set of French troops in support, who fought the British Army led by General Cornwallis. If you've seen or heard the musical Hamilton, you'll know that Alexander Hamilton was finally given troops to lead and helped America attain its freedom from British rule.
And, here's a link to Hamilton's "Yorktown (The World Turned Upside Down)" to hear about this battle in a unique way.
