Today's Story from Our Flag
On this date, September 9th, in 1776, the Second Continental Congress officially named Our Nation as the "United States of America." Thomas Jefferson first wrote the term, "United States" in his draft of the Declaration of Independence. Until this time, the term "United Colonies" was most used to describe the group of American colonies. The Declaration of Independence begins by stating, "The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America"
[ Shown in red on map = Thirteen colonies that became the first boundaries of the United States of America ]
Today, while our states are officially "united," we as citizens seem hardly civil (well-mannered / respectful) or united.
What can we do to better, more openly, and peacefully communicate as concerned citizens with issues we need to come together and resolve?
And, here's a very interesting and insightful article from a Vietnam Vet, that strangely popped up in my Google News search for half-staff orders today, that reinforces the "state of America"
