Jae S. Moon of Levittown, PA

SSG Jae Moon, 21, served in Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF)
with 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division deployed from Fort Carson, CO
Killed December 25, 2006, by enemy improvised explosive device (IED) while on patrol in Baghdad, Iraq

Killed Aug. 8 by enemy small-arms fire as his unit was conducting combat operations in Deh Afghan, Afghanistan
Awarded Silver Star for his valorous actions on August 7 & 8, 2005
Survived by mother, father, and brother
We honor and thank U.S. Army Special Forces Staff Sergeant Chris Falkel for defending our freedoms and fighting to liberate the lives of others.

​Chris inspires us with this recollection from his childhood buddy and neighbor, Matthew Sahagun:
"Chris was a warrior," Sahagun said. "Since an early age he always had it in him. He was brave beyond belief and always by your side if you needed him."

[Note: Chris' life and his dad carrying on his legacy via "Juniors Bullet Pens" was one of the first inspirations to enable this Flag Steward nonprofit program]

Died December 8, 2008, age 62, of a Vietnam War related illness 
Survived by wife, Ellen Sweeney, two children and three grandchildren
We honor and thank U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Ed Sweeney Jr. for defending our freedoms and fighting to liberate the lives of others.

​Ed Sweeney Jr. inspires us with his leadership - how he looked out for the welfare of his men:
Chief Warrant Officer Frank Glenn, a fellow Vietnam War scout helicopter pilot of Platoon Leader Ed Sweeney, repeated Captain Sweeney's directive to his 9 scout pilots, "Don't be a cowboy, don't take any unnecessary risks, no hot-dogging, and don't get your crew killed.  Your job is to return to base everyday."
