Strengthening Our Future by Honoring Our Past

[Students: While you are outside protesting for 17-minutes, you all should take 2-minutes to honor the shooting victims / #Take2MinutesToHonor . So, ask your administration and/or school security for the key to your school flagpole so that you can enable this flag ceremony tribute - lowering the U.S. Flag to half-staff for 2-minutes while Taps is played and the 17 victims names are read aloud.

Welcome to today's #Enough #NationalWalkoutDay
Flag Ceremony honoring the Stoneman Douglas shooting victims
PLEASE, BE RESPECTFUL and LISTEN CLOSELY
Today, let's take 2-minutes to honor the victims of the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting. Please, place your hand over your heart as we lower our school's U.S. Flag to half-staff for 2-minutes. As "Taps" is played during this flag-lowering, feel your heartbeat and remember the 17 Stoneman Douglas students whose hearts beat no more.
[Note: If you have a bullhorn, hold your phone's speaker to the horn so that Taps plays more loudly.
Now, SLOWLY and reverently lower the U.S. Flag (and your State Flag that may be flying below it), while playing 'Taps' music (1-minute of trumpet playing). Hold the U.S. Flag at that position while the victims names are read aloud.]

The 17 victims of the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting who we honor today are (pictured left to right and top to bottom):
Carmen Schentrup, Aaron Feis, Martin Duque, Scott Beigel,
Nicholas Dworet, Gina Montalto, Alyssa Alhadeef, Luke Hoyer,
Meadow Pollack, Alex Schachter, Helena Ramsay, Peter Wang,
Chris Hixon, Jamie Guttenberg, Joaquin Oliver, Alaina Petty,
and Cara Loughran
Now, we raise Our Flag back to the top of the flagpole, just as we raise awareness of our school safety concerns to America.
And, let's show our unity and desire to fulfill the promise, declared by our Founding Fathers, of "Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness," as we recite TOGETHER the Pledge of Allegiance.
Thanks for participating in today's #Enough #NationalWalkoutDay Flag Ceremony
Now, go be a good citizen!!!

The U.S. Flag Code:
provides Our Flag's Rules and Regulations
[HIGHLIGHTS OF: The U.S. Flag Code stating how citizens should conduct themselves during this ceremony is below.]
Title 36, Chapter 10 PATRIOTIC CUSTOMS
National anthem; Star-Spangled Banner, conduct during playing:
During rendition of the national anthem when the flag is displayed, all present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. Men not in uniform should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart. Persons in uniform should render the military salute at the first note of the anthem and retain this position until the last note. When the flag is not displayed, those present should face toward the music and act in the same manner they would if the flag were displayed there.
Note: A new law was passed on October 30, 2008 that authorizes veterans and active-duty military not in uniform can now render the military-style hand salute during the playing of the national anthem. This publication is currently being updated to reflect the new law.
Pledge of Allegiance to the flag; manner of delivery:
The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, "I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.", should be rendered by standing at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. When not in uniform men should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart. Persons in uniform should remain silent, face the flag, and render the military salute.
