At the Lake Placid Winter Games, Team USA upset the USSR (Union of Soviet Socialist Republics - essentially Russia today) in the Winter Olympics gold medal game. The 4-3 victory was such a huge, unbelievable upset that it became known as the 'Miracle on Ice.'
