​On this date, September 22, in 1789, the Office of the Postmaster General is established by George Washington.  The Postmaster General is the Chief Executive Officer of the US Postal Service.  The postal service was first set-up by the Continental Congress and was led by Benjamin Franklin back in 1775. Today, the US Postal Service employees more than 630,000.
