Today's Story from Our Flag
Japanese Foreign Minister Mamoru Shigemitsu signing the Instrument of Surrender on behalf of the Imperial Japan leaders, formally ending World War II [public domain image]
On this date, September, 2, of 1945, a team of Japanese dignitaries representing the Japanese military and government, officially surrender to the Allied Forces aboard the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay. Upon the Allied Forces' representatives signing the surrender document, World War II was officially ended. That makes today is the 75th anniversary of V-J Day (Victory over Japan Day) declared as such by President Harry S. Truman.
So, please, take a moment in silence / prayer today to honor the more than 400,000 U.S. military service members who died in combat during WWII (sadly, enough to fill the MetLife Stadium five times).
