Note: The 'Be a Stud Citizen' Interactive Calendar displays today as "National Former POW Recognition Day."  That is INCORRECT.  We apologize for the mistake.
Where is Our Flag, the U.S. Flag, at half-staff today?

Today's Historical Moment from Our Flag
... celebrates the birth of the US Space Command and its transition to a full military service as the US Space Force ...

On this date, September 1st, in 1982, the Department of Defense and US Air Force established the Air Force Space Command - the predecessor to today's US Space Force.  Unbeknownst to me and most Americans, the Air Force Space Command provided space forces support to the 1983 US invasion of Grenada, the 1986 bombing of Libya, the 1989 invasion of Panama, and the Gulf War.
In 2019, the US Space Force, was founded and born from the Air Force Space Command.

Perhaps, you had the same thoughts I had when the US Space Force logo was first revealed.  "Are you kidding me, we adopted the Star Trek symbol into the US Space Force logo?!"  When in reality, it wasn't the military officials of 2019 who integrated the Star Trek symbol, it was the Air Force officials who put into the Air Force Space Command logo when it was established in 1982 - which makes sense.  Star Trek re-runs were big in the 70s and 80s.

Today's Insightful Quote from Our Flag
"Space science, like nuclear science and all technology, has no conscience of its own. Whether it will become a force for good or ill depends on man. And only if the United-States occupies a position of preeminence can we help decide whether this new ocean will be a sea of peace or a new terrifying theatre of war. I do not say that we should or will go unprotected against the hostile misuse of space, any more than we go unprotected against the hostile use of land or sea."

– John F. Kennedy
(35th President speaking at Rice University in 1982)

And, now it's time to ...
Recite the Pledge of Allegiance
Students across America, at school or at home, informed of the origin of the US Space Force and inspired by its future work to protect America, please unite and recite the Pledge.
