On this date, August 30th, in 1967, Thurgood Marshall was confirmed as the first African-American Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States.
He served on the Supreme Court for 24 years (from 1967 to 1991). His most famous case was one that he argued before the Supreme Court in 1954. In Brown v. Board of Education, Thurgood Marshall proved that segregated public schooling was unconstitutional.
