On this date, August 25, of 1916, the National Park Service was created by our Congress' National Park Service Organic Act. The National Park Service (NPS) is part of the U.S. Department of the Interior. From what I hear, Americans, in the face of pandemic that encourages social distancing and being outdoors, have been going to our National Parks in record numbers in the summer of 2020 and again in 2021.
Who do we have to thank for our National Park Service?
John Muir, President Theodore Roosevelt, and President Woodrow Wilson, who signed the National Park Service Organic Act in 1916, were a few of the many Americans who helped create this great way to keep America the Beautiful.
Today, the National Park Service has a mission to preserve the ecological and historical aspects of designated lands and places, while at the same time, allowing use of the land and places for public benefit and enjoyment.

Today's Inspirational Quote from Our Flag
"The coniferous forests of the Yosemite Park, and of the Sierra in general,
surpass all others of their kind in America, or indeed the world,
not only in the size and beauty of the trees,
but in the number of species assembled together,
and the grandeur of the mountains they are growing on.
– John Muir
(conservationist, author, and basically founder of Yosemite National Park)
