Today's Historical Moment from Our Flag
... honors the Orville Brothers and National Aviation Day ...

On this date, August 19th, in 1871, Orville Wright, of the famous aviation pioneer duo, Orville and Wilbur Wright, was born in Dayton, Ohio.  Orville and his brother invented, built, and flew the world's first airplane. In tribute to the Wright brothers and America's discovery of, passion for, and accomplishments related to aviation, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt established 'National Aviation Day' on Orville Wright's birthday in 1939.  Roosevelt's proclamation empowers US Presidents to proclaim the anniversary of Orville Wright's birthday as National Aviation Day - promoting citizens' interest in flying.
