On this date, August 13th in 1818 and 1860, two famous American trailblazing women were born. One fought for women's right to vote and the other taught women how to defend themselves. Lucy Stone, born in 1818, was the first woman from Massachusetts to earn a college degree. She used her educated mind to express the need to end slavery and empower women with the right to vote. She is created with being one of the key suffragists (person supporting voting rights) that helped get women the right to vote.
Annie Oakley, born as Phoebe Ann Mosey, born in 1860, was an expert shooter (marksman). She joined Buffalo Bill in 1885 to be part of his traveling Wild West show. She showed off her shooting skills all across America and Europe - especially amazing crowds when she shot the cigar off her husband's lips from 30 paces away. You may have seen her life story performed in "Annie Get Your Gun" - a musical theatre show and movie.

Today's Insightful Quote from Our Flag
"I think, with never-ending gratitude,
that the young women of today do not and can never know at what price
their right to free speech and to speak at all in public has been earned."
