On this date, August 11th, in 1965, in south central Los Angeles, in the "Watts" neighborhood, a 6-day riot began. It all started with a simple drunken driver arrest attempt of Marquette Frye, a 21-year-old African American who failed a field sobriety test. When Marquette Frye resisted arrest in front of a crowd of neighborhood onlookers, a confrontation between police, Marquettes, his mom, and others occurred. The residents of Watts, a poor, black community, accused the police of brutality and began to protest, more like riot, against LA's peace officers. The riots produced 34 deaths, more than 1000 injuries, and more than 3400 arrests. It was Los Angeles' worst civil unrest until the Rodney King riots of 1992.
Today's Insightful Quote from Our Flag
"Rioting is a childish way of trying to be a man, ...
... but it takes time to rise out of the hell of hatred and frustration
and accept that to be a man you don't have to riot."
– Abraham Maslow
(an American Psychologist)

And, now it's time to ...
