How did CO get its name?:
The Spanish are credited with naming Colorado. They got the name from the Native Americans in the area who named the river, the Colorado River, based on its red-brown color. So, the Spanish called it "el Rio Colorado" and the territory name came from its major riverway.
Nickname of CO:
The Centennial State
(because it became a state in the 100th / Centennial year of America's birth)

2) Ski resorts
- are a must see and must do in Colorado. There are 32 ski resorts to choose from. Some of my faves include: Vail, Steamboat, and Breckenridge - not just for skiing, but for some killer hikes and mtn bike rides in the summer also

3) Colorado's 14ers
- will challenge you with 58 peaks that are above 14,000 feet, more than any other U.S. state. From easy to technical to driveable, anyone can hike or drive to the top of a Colorado "fourteener"

Did you know this about Colorado?:
75% of the land area of the United States with an altitude over 10,000 feet is in Colorado
Its "Colorado Trail" is a 500-mile long hiking trail from Durango to Denver that crosses over and through 8 mountain ranges
The view from the top of Pikes Peak, probably Colorado's most well-known 14er, inspired Katherine Lee Bates to write the words to "America the Beautiful" - including:
Oh beautiful, for spacious skies
For amber waves of grain
For purple mountain majesties
