On this date, July 30th, in 1956, Eisenhower signed another piece of historic legislation (law) requiring the new, official motto, "In God We Trust," to be written on all U.S. currency (money). Prior to this Joint Resolution of the 84th US Congress (Public Law 84-140), "E pluribus unum," was considered the National Motto because it was written on the original Seal of the United States of America and on money since 1795. "E pluribus unum" is a Latin phrase meaning "from many, one" - reinforcing the belief then, and the need now, to work together, to be united in our efforts to help America become the 'perfect union' our Founding Fathers have hoped for.

Today's Insightful Quote from Our Flag
... highlights how early the thought and phrase 'In God We Trust' was put to use in American symbols ...
"... Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!."
- from the last stanza (part) of the Star-Spangled Banner by Francis Scott Key
