On this date, June 11th on 1776, a committee of 5 delegates was selected by the Second Continental Congress to write the Declaration of Independence. Approximately, 2 weeks later, the first writing of the declaration was presented to Congress for review on June 28th. The members of the "Committee of Five" were (pictured above from L to R): John Adams of Massachusetts, Robert Livingston of New York, Roger Sherman of Connecticut, Thomas Jefferson of Virginia, Ben Franklin of Pennsylvania. Thomas Jefferson, a persuasive and engaging writer, is the main presenter because he was the primary author of the draft of the Declaration of Independence.
