Today's Historical Moment from Our Flag
... recalls the end of an automobile first ...
Picture
[ public domain image ]
On this date, May 26, in 1927, nearly 19 years after the first, the last Ford Model T rolled off the automobile assembly line at the Ford Motor Company in Detroit, Michigan.  Automobiles had been around since the 1880s, but they were almost exclusively owned by the wealthy class.  It wasn't until the Model T came along that working, middle class Americans were able to afford an automobile.  And, boy did they sell like crazy - 15 million in the span of 19 years.
How did Henry Ford do it?  He focused on creating an efficient and effective car production process by enabling an assembly line that could build inexpensive cars without sacrificing quality.
