On this date, May 24th, in 1883, the famed Brooklyn Bridge was opened for public use. The Brooklyn Bridge, which goes over the East River between Brooklyn in the east on Long Island and Manhattan Island to the west, was the first fixed bridge over the East River. Back in that time, this bridge was the longest suspension bridge in the world. It is about 1800 meters (1.1 miles) and about 120 feet (40 yards) above the river. It was originally called the East River Ridge, but was renamed in 1915 to Brooklyn Bridge.

Today's Inspirational Quote from Our Flag
“Everyone should walk across the Brooklyn Bridge.
I did it three days in a row because it was one of the most exhiliarating experiences I've ever had.
It was breathtaking."
