Today's Historical Moment from Our Flag

... reminds of a modern day service that changed America's, and the world's, media sharing and viewing habits ...
On this date, April 23, in 2005, the first video was uploaded to YouTube. And, no, it's not some superbly filmed or produced video that all want to see and enjoy. It's a simple, short, home video like clip called "Me at the zoo." It's a 18-second video of a young man describing the cool "really, really, really long trunks" of the elephants at the San Diego Zoo (watch it below). And now, 16 years later, YouTube video have become a part of nearly everyone's day in America and around th world. It all started in February 2005, when, 3 former PayPal employees, Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim founded YouTube. And, just a year-and-a-half later, in November 2006, YouTube was acquired by Google for $1.65 billion. It's another amazing story of American innovation.
Today's Inspirational Quotes from Our Flag
... from 2 of the Founders of YouTube ...
"Our goal is to have YouTube on every screen -
to take it from the PC to the living room and the mobile phone."
- Steve Chen
(Obviously, this was stated during the very early days of YouTube and that goal was achieved - probably, beyond the wildest dreams of the Founders)
"Running (cross-country and track in high school) helped me learn how to deal with failure,
and failure is a big part of the Internet business."
- Chad Hurley
(Obviously, Chad found success with YouTube, but many, many in the digital media start-up world, like myself, don't hit it big and that failure keeps driving you.)

Today's Fun from Our Flag
... is up to you ... go find a funny video on YouTube and get a smile on your face for a moment or two - then, you'll be ready to attack the rest of your day ;) ...
Or you could do what Masego, quote below, does - learn from YouTube ;)
"I learn things myself. I call it YouTube University; YouTube has taught me more than anything. I learned how to tie a tie, all my pick-up lines come from YouTube reruns of 'Fresh Prince.'"
- Masego, an American musician
