Today's Historical Moment from Our Flag
It's EARTH DAY!
It's EARTH DAY!
[ Earth Day Flag created uses public domain image from Apollo 17 picture of Earth from space ]
The first Earth Day celebration occurred on April 22 in 1970 - a nationwide celebration, a environmental teach-in that was said to involve more than 20M citizens across the USA - including the UAW?! That seems odd that the first Earth Day event organizers Senator Nelson Gaylord and activist Denis Hayes were able to convince what seems to be a non-environmental friendly type of work and union, the United Auto Workers (UAW), to join this protest against the variety of harms being done to mother Earth. But, yes, interestingly, the largest financial and operational support group for the first Earth Day was the UAW - thanks to the leadership of Walter Reuther. And, today, we see more and more innovation from the auto industry to reduce its harm to Earth by lowering and/or eliminating emmissions with hybrid and all-electric cars.
Today's Inspirational Quote from Our Flag
"On Earth Day, we celebrate all the gifts the world and nature make available to us.
We recognize our complete dependence on its bounty.
And we acknowledge the need for good stewardship
to preserve its fruits for future generations."

Today's Fun from Our Flag
... shares a few, corny kid jokes about mother Earth ...
Jack asked, Diane, "Do you know the difference between climate and weather."
Diane, thought about and sighed.
Jack answered with, "You cannot weather a tree, but you can climb it (climate;)"
;) :) ;)

Diane then asked, Jack, "Do you know what the small maple tree said to the big one?"
Jack, said, I know that one - "The little tree said, 'Leaf me alone big tree.'"
Lastly Jack, asked, Diane, "Do you know why the sun likes to go to school?"
Diane, replied confidently, "Sure, for the same reason all kids like to go to school - to get brighter!"
:) ;) :)
