Today's Historical Moment from Our Flag
... another American pioneering moment,
the first Space Shuttle launch ...

40 years ago today, on April 12th in 1981, the Space Shuttle Columbia, NASA flight mission STS-1 (Space Transportation System - flight #1), launched from Kennedy Space Center in Florida.  This marked another first in the world - humans flying a reusable spacecraft that would be rocketed into orbit around Earth and then return by flying like an airplane to land on a runway and be used for future space missions.  Over the next 30 years, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, better known as NASA, would complete 135 Space Shuttle missions that empowered 355 astronauts to work on the International Space Station, Hubble Telescope, and other labs and satellites.
Today's Inspirational Quote from Our Flag

"What a way to come to California.
"

- NASA Astronaut Bob Crippen,
after piloting and landing STS-1, the Columbia Space Shuttle, at Edwards Air Force Base in California

Today's Fun from Our Flag
... is a goofy, space-related joke ...
Hey, everyone's wondering, ...
... are you an outer-space flying astronaut?

Because, they all think you are ...
... out of this world! ;)
And, now it's time to ...
Recite the Pledge of Allegiance
Students across America, at school or at home, inspired by America being the first to send astronauts into space, and have them come back to Earth and land like an airplane, please unite and recite the Pledge.
