Today's Historical Moment from Our Flag
... recalls the famous "give me liberty, or give me death" speech ...

On this date, March 23rd, in 1775, Founding Father, Patrick Henry delivered his famous "Give me liberty, or give me death!" speech to the Second Virginia Convention delegates gathered at St. John's Episcopal Church in Richmond, Virginia.  His fiery speech convinced the delegates to pass a resolution (written decision) sending military troops from Virginia to join the Continental Army to fight in the Revolutionary War.  Interestingly, two future Presidents were Virginia delegates at this convention, George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, and they were inspired by Henry's passion for American independence. Henry also served as a delegate from Virginia for the first and second Continental Congresses and as a 2-term Governor of Virginia.
