Today's Historical Moment from Our Flag:
... pays tribute to Flag Steward's true founder, Poppy (aka US Army retired Lieutenant Colonel Ed Sweeney Jr. / Uncle Eddy / my dad). His life of service to country and community inspired me to positively impact kids like he did. So, five years ago, by emulating his love of God, Country, & Family and respect for Our Flag, I started this good citizenship educational nonprofit program by telling "Stories from Our Flag" - all with goal of helping students to have a more engaging and meaningful 'Pledge of Allegiance' experience at school.

[ You've seen me reference "Poppy's Memorial Flagpole at Flag Steward HQ" in many inspirational photos on this website / app. And, now you can see the dedication tiles, from Poppy's grandkids, at the flagpole's base ]
Yes, today, is St. Patrick's Day.
But, instead of a lesson about its origin, this year we're going to celebrate and highlight the achievements of an Irish-American, Vietnam War hero, and All-American Patriot whose favorite holiday was St. Patrick's Day. And, 75 years ago yesterday, he was born to Ed Sweeney Sr. and Mary Fitzgerald in Boston, MA. If his birth had been delayed one day, he would have been Patrick Sweeney instead of Ed Sweeney Jr. ;)

- a humble public servant of 39 years, serving 20 years in the US Army and 19 leading school district maintenance departments in Union County and Charlotte-Mecklenberg School Districts in NC.

Today's Inspirational Quote from Our Flag
... recalls how a military leader looked out for the welfare of his men ...
Chief Warrant Officer Frank Glenn, a fellow Vietnam War scout helicopter pilot of Platoon Leader Ed Sweeney, repeated Captain Sweeney's commonly given directive to his 9 scout pilots as they headed out for another hunter-killer (scout helicopter and attack helicopter) mission:
"Don't be a cowboy.
Don't take any unnecessary risks, no hot-dogging, and don't get your crew killed.
Your job is to return to base everyday."
