How did ME get its name?:
Early explorers named the area after the former province of Maine in France. In 2001, state legislatures affirmed this name origin by setting up a Franco-American Day celebrating the state's history.

- the house where Harriet Beecher Stowe wrote her eye-opening and society-changing book "Uncle Tom's Cabin," which opened all Americans eyes to the harsh, often inhumane treatment of slaves in the South

- where boats, like the famous Bowdoin Schooner, which has explored the Arctic Ocean more than other US ship, are docked
