At the end of World War II, another set of battle lines were drawn during the break-up of the formerly Nazi Germany controlled land in Europe. Two of the Allied Forces country's, USA and the Soviet Union, were now becoming opponents on how to lead (control) the people and land being reorganized after the war. USA, standing for freedom, and the Soviet Union, standing for communism, had different approaches to helping rebuild the war torn countries of Europe and beyond.
So, on this date, about 2 years after the end of WWII, on March 12th, in 1947, President Truman, presented a plan before Congress - the Truman Doctrine, This plan (a foreign policy) would stop the spread of the Soviet Union's communism-based expansion into vulnerable (at risk, weak) countries in Europe, Asia, and elsewhere.

And, these totalitarian governments taking over and controlling formerly free people are a threat to world peace and America's security.

Jack asked Jane, "Do you know why the Cold War last so long - more than 40 years?"
Then, Jane replied, "Because the Soviet Union kept 'Stalin'"

Jane told Jack, "My hamster had 4 pups this yesterday and they all appear to be communist."
Jack was confused, but said nothing.
Then, 2 weeks later, Jane said to Jack, "My hamster's pups now appear to capitalist."
So, Jack stated, "I'm confused. Last time we spoke, you said the hamster pups were communists, but now you say they are capitalists. And neither makes sense to me."
So, Jane explained, "You are correct. Yesterday, after 2 weeks, the hamster pups opened their eyes. So, like I said, they were born as close-eyed communists, and when their eyes opened they realized the errors of their way and became red-blooded American capitalists."
