[ Fats Domino playing on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1956 = public domain ]
"The Fat Man" was the first rock-and-roll record to sell a million copies. And, no, it wasn't a record from Elvis Presley or Little Richard or Chuck Berry. It was performed by Fats Domino, a talented African-American singer and songwriter. He was born Antoine Dominique Domino, Jr. on this date February 26th, in 1928. He became one of the pioneers, one of the fathers of rock-and-roll, by performing and selling 11 Top 10 hits between 1955 to 1960 - the earliest days of this musical genre. As one of the musicians in the first class placed into the Rock-and-Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, OH, he will be forever remembered.
Today's Inspirational Quote from Our Flag
"Antoine 'Fats' Domino was a 1950s rock n' roll pioneer,
a larger-than-life New Orleans figure,
and a role model for the African-American community in a time of deep segregation."
- Elizabeth Flock (an American author)
