... a New Year's Birthday for a famous flag-maker ...
On this date, January 1, in 1752, Elizabeth Griscom Ross, better known as Betsy Ross, was born in Philadelphia, within the Colony of Pennsylvania of British America. She was a seamstress and proclaimed by her relatives and many historians as the maker of the first American flag, now known as the Betsy Ross Flag. Eventhough there is no historical evidence of Betsy Ross' flag-making for General George Washington, there is none to disprove it either. So, regardless, let's embrace her contributions to America and the Betsy Ross Flag leading the Continental Army through many of America's Revolutionary War battles.
Today's Inspirational Quote from Our Flag
"Said Washington to Betsy Ross, 'A flag our nation needs,
To lead our valiant soldiers on to high and noble deeds.'"
- from a song called "Said Washington to Betsy Ross" by C. Austin Miles
