National Fallen Firefighters Memorial service
Across the USA, Our Flag flies at half-staff to honor National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Day
On October 16, 2001, President G. W. Bush approved legislation requiring the United States flag to be lowered to half-staff on all Federal buildings (and citizens are invited to join in the tribute) to memorialize fallen firefighters. Public Law 107-51 requires this action to occur annually in conjunction with observance of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service. The date of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service is traditionally the first Sunday in October. The service is held at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Maryland.

This year the Fallen Firefighters Memorial service will honor 103 fallen firefighters (82 from 2019 and 21 and previous years).
For 39 years now, America has honored its fallen fire heroes during a National Memorial Service at the monument site in Maryland. The ceremony includes the placing of a Presidential Wreath at the monument and dedication of a plaque honoring those who died in the line-of-duty during the previous year.
