All Flags across HAWAII (HI: until Jan. 24): Hawaii's Governor ordered all (U.S. & State) Flags at state facilities across Hawaii to half-staff immediately on Mon., Jan. 20, until sunset on Fri., Jan. 24, to honor Honolulu Police Department officers Tiffany Enriquez and Kaulike Kalama who were shot and killed in the line of duty on Jan. 19.. All Flags in Torrance, California (CA: until TBD): City of Torrance Mayor, assumedly with authority and approval of the CA Governor, ordered all Flags at Torrance City buildings to half-staff until sunset the date of his interment (TBD), in honor of former Mayor Ken Miller, who served from 1970-78. City Flag in Lewisville, TEXAS (TX: until TBD): Lewisville's Mayor ordered the CITY Flag (the City flag only) at government buildings to half-staff until sunset on his date of interment (TBD), in memory of former Fire Chief Tim Titttle, who died Jan. 20th, after a long battle with cancer. All Flags at Madison County Courthouse, VIRGINIA (VA: until Jan. 22): Madison County Judge Taylor, assumedly with authority and approval of the VA Governor, ordered all Flags at Madison County Courthouse and invited others throughout the county to half-staff until sunset on Wed., Jan. 22, the date of his interment (TBD), in honor of former Madison County Circuit Court Judge James S. All Flags in Aurora, ILLINOIS (IL: until Feb. 1): Aurora's Mayor, assumedly with the authority and approval of the Governor, ordered all Flags at city facilities in Aurora, IL to half-staff until sunset on the date of his interment, Sat., Feb. 1, in memory of a courageous young hero, US Army PFC Miguel Villalon, who killed in action on Sat., Jan. 11, in Afghanistan. On this date, January 22, in 1946, President Truman established the National Intelligency Authority and its operational arm, the Central Intelligence Group. Authorities from the U.S. military, State Department, and FBI (Federal Bureau of Invetigation) were not in favor of Truman's actions. Then, 20 months later, these new parts of the Executive Branch, under the control and command of the President, were re-named and established officially in the National Security Act of 1947 - as the National Security Council and Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). The CIA is a non-military (civilian) service of the federal government responsible for gathering, processing, and analyzing national security information from foreign countries around the world.
[ The CIA Memorial Wall contains 113 stars (83 when this public domain picture was taken), representing the deaths of 113 CIA officers. Most of the fallen agents' names are listed in the book below the stars, but 39 remain secret. ]
