Half-Staff Alerts & Honorees for January 21
All Flags across HAWAII (HI: until Jan. 24): Hawaii's Governor ordered all (U.S. & State) Flags at state facilities across Hawaii to half-staff immediately on Mon., Jan. 20, until sunset on Fri., Jan. 24, to honor Honolulu Police Department officers Tiffany Enriquez and Kaulike Kalama who were shot and killed in the line of duty on Jan. 19.. All Flags in Aurora, ILLINOIS (IL: until TBD): Aurora's Mayor, assumedly with the authority and approval of the Governor, ordered all Flags at city facilities in Aurora, IL to half-staff until sunset on the date of his memorial (to be announced on Tuesday, Jan. 21), in memory of a courageous young hero, US Army PFC Miguel Villalon, who killed in action on Sat., Jan. 11, in Afghanistan. All Flags across Los Angeles County, CALIFORNIA (CA: until TBD): LA County officials, assumedly with authority and approval of the CA Governor, ordered all Flags at Los Angeles County and cities within the county to half-staff until sunset on the date of her interment (TBD), to honor Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office Detective Amber Leist. All Flags in Wilmington, DELAWARE (DE: until TBD): City officials, assumedly with authority and approval of the DE Governor ordered all Flags at government buildings in Wilmington, Delaware to half-staff until sunset on his date of interment (TBD), in memory of former Wilmington Mayor and Delaware State Congressman Harry G. All Flags at Madison County Courthouse, VIRGINIA (VA: until Jan. 22): Madison County Judge Taylor, assumedly with authority and approval of the VA Governor, ordered all Flags at Madison County Courthouse and invited others throughout the county to half-staff until sunset on Wed., Jan. 22, the date of his interment (TBD), in honor of former Madison County Circuit Court Judge James S. OTD (On this date), January 21, in 1738, Ethan Allen, a farmer, philosopher, and Revolutionary War patriot, was born in Connecticut. He is known for: 1) leading a small militia group to capture Fort Ticonderoga, which housed useful ammunition and supplies, from British forces in May of 1775, 2) being a prisoner of war for nearly 3 years, after fighting and being captured by British forces in Montreal, Canada, and 3) being one of the founders of the state of Vermont.
