All (US & State) Flags across PENNSYLVANIA (PA: on Jan. 6 & Jan. 10): PA Governor ordered all (US & State) Flags across Pennsylvania to half-staff, immediately on Mon., Jan. 6 (announced late in afternoon), and on Fri., Jan. 10, the date of his interment, to honor former U.S. Rep. All State/Commonwealth Flags across PENNSYLVANIA (PA: on Jan. 6 & Jan. 10): PA Governor ordered all Commonwealth (State) Flags across Pennsylvania to half-staff, immediately on Mon., Jan. 6 (announced late in afternoon), and on Fri., Jan. 10, the date of his interment, to honor Rostraver West Newton Emergency Services Paramedic Matthew Smelser, who was killed January 5, 2020, while responding to a crash on Interstate 70. All Flags across Multnomah County, OREGON (OR: until Jan. 10): Multnomah County officials, assumedly with approval and authority of the Governor, are flying the US, and all other Flags at County facilities, at half-staff until sunset on Fri., Jan. 10,, in honor of Portland City Commissioner Nick Fish, who died recently of stomach cancer. Today's #NeverForgottenFriday Commemoration
Unfortunately, there was one U.S. Army soldier and two Defense Department contractors killed in a Global War on Terror (GWOT) combat zone this past week. Specialist Henry Mayfield Jr., 23, from Chicago, Illinois, and two others, who have still not been named yet, were killed when terrorists attacked the American airfield in Manda Bay, Kenya, on Saturday, January 5th. Mayfield was serving with 1st Battalion, 58th Aviation Regiment, 164th Theater Airfield Operations Group, from Fort Rucker, Alabama.

Sadly, ... there were 6 first responder honorees who died in the line of duty recently. The 5 fallen police officers were Investigator Fortini of the New York State Police (died of 9/11 related cancer), Detective O'Flaherty of the New York City Police Department (died of a 9/11 related cancer), Officer Singleton in Tennessee (died of a hit-and-run related injury), Officer Winkeler in South Carolina (shot & killed), and Officer Dunn in Florida (died in motorcycle crash).
And, the fallen firefighter was West Peculiar firefighter Chuck McCormick in Missouri (died / engulfed by flames when house fire floor collapsed).
We honor and thank these patriots for serving and protecting their communities.
